San Diego IEEE AI Workshop

From Prototype to Production: Build Your First AI Agent

Make a small AI helper, see how AI makes sense of video, and share ideas. A standalone workshop in association with Live AI Dream, with pizza and networking included.

Standalone workshop · 5–7:30 PM

A simple plan for the day.

Build an AI helper, watch a video demo, and ask questions.

October 25, 2026 · planned

5–6 PM · Build your first AI agent

Chhavi Jain leads the first hour. Build a small AI helper. Use loops to try again, choose different paths, check code and fix mistakes, then put the steps together.

6–6:30 PM · See how AI makes sense of video

Mehmet Tarik Baran shows how AI watches objects and movement in video and turns what it sees into organized information. See how it spots and follows objects, reads body poses, and finds patterns in where things are and how they move over time.

This is a project demonstration, not a promise to build the full video system during the session. View the original project post →

6:30–7:30 PM · Student showcase, Q&A, pizza & networking

See student work, share ideas and ask questions while meeting fellow attendees over pizza. This showcase is part of this event only; individual presentation slots are not promised. Pizza and networking are included with workshop admission. The event concludes at 7:30 PM.

Timezone has not been specified. Please confirm the timezone with the organizer before making plans.

Admission · pizza and networking included

Meet the speakers

Practical experience. Clear examples.

5–6 PM · AI agents

Chhavi Jain

Chhavi brings 20+ years of experience in telecommunications and machine learning across Qualcomm, Intel and Nokia. Her decade at Qualcomm included work on inference and on-device AI, and she holds wireless patents.

She is the founder and Chief AI Officer of Live AI Dream and an IEEE SPS Vice Chair. In this session, she connects that engineering experience to the steps of building, checking and improving a small AI agent.

6–6:30 PM · Video AI

Mehmet Tarik Baran

Mehmet presents a computer-vision project that turns video into structured information. His demonstration brings together object detection, tracking, pose estimation and motion analysis to show what is happening in a scene and how it changes over time.

See how these pieces work together, then bring your questions to the shared discussion.

What to expect

Learn by putting the pieces together.

Small steps, clear examples, and time to ask questions. All organized activities take place within this event.

01 / BUILD

Make your first agent

Build an AI helper. Use loops to try again and different paths to choose what happens next. Check the code, fix mistakes and put it together.

02 / WATCH

See AI read video

Watch Mehmet’s demo of AI spotting objects and movement. See how video becomes information we can use.

03 / SHARE & CONNECT

Student showcase, Q&A, pizza & networking

See student work, ask questions and meet fellow attendees from 6:30–7:30 PM. Pizza and networking are included for all registered attendees. This is a same-day showcase, not a recurring program. The event ends at 7:30 PM.

Share only material you have permission to show. Keep personal data and private work safe.
